Job Details

SUMMARY:
Responsible to ensure all new tooling programs and engineering changes are completed accurately and on time to meet customer needs. Ensure that tools meet or exceed die standard requirements and production needs.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for all aspects of Tooling builds.
1. Oversee tooling build schedule to ensure customer requirements are met on time.
2. Report new tooling program progress and any deficiencies at weekly engineering and APQP meetings.
3. Coordinate and assist with strip, design, and feasibility reviews as needed.
4. Lead follow-up activity and support assistance with internal/external tool shops from tooling/automation development, tracking, tooling placement, on time delivery, sample submission, and buy off with receiving plant.
5. Assist in FMEA, pre-production planning, and initial samples.
Responsible for ongoing administration and management of all new tooling programs.
1. Investigate, resolve and/or recommend solutions to problems typically relating to tooling and related automation.
2. Coordinate continuous improvement process of new tooling programs to include safety-related issues, ergonomics, material handling, corrective actions, Q.D.C., and quick changeovers.
3. Meet all requirements as defined by OSHA or other federal, provincial, or state regulations of site location and the safety program.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED with at least 5 years of Tool and Die Making Experience or a Bachelor's Degree and at least 3 years of Engineering Experience.
  • Certified Tool & Die Maker a Plus.
  • At least 5 years of metal stamping/forming experience or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in tooling design and/or program management preferred.
  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of processes/principles, company products, trade terminology, metal materials, stamping/welding/assembly manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment system and processes, die design and maintenance, and machine operation.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand engineering documents and blueprints such as 2D/3D automotive drawings (component, assembly, and equipment), technical standards, and ECI.
  • Possess a basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) and know the AIAG (Automotive Industry Action Group) Core Tools.
  • Ability to use CAD to view drawings required, ability to dimension and model is a plus.
