The Bancroft School is the leading regional provider of special education programs for children and youth with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 3 to 21. For over 130 years, The Bancroft School has continued to innovate in instruction, therapeutic integration, behavior therapies, individualized programs, life and job skills training and preparation for transition and beyond.





Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Independently provides professional nursing care and various health services to screen, identify, assess, and address students’ healthcare needs while operating within personal license constraints and in strict accordance with regulations and guidelines defined by the Nurse Practices Act, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), N.J. Department of Health, , N.J. Department of Education Administrative Code and Amendments, Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) Division of Youth Services (DYFS) where applicable, the Individual Program Plan (IPP), Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA), and established Bancroft policies and procedures.
  • Interacts on a regular basis and effectively communicates with students, family members, School Principal(s) and faculty members, discipline-specific clinical staff, primary physicians, healthcare providers, direct care givers, Nursing Department management and nursing staff, Chief Medical Officer, school district representatives, state and federal regulatory agencies, Social Workers, etc. to attain and maintain optimal health and health attitudes and assisting in the removal or modification of health-related barriers to the learning process.
  • Facilitates a team approach to Schools’ health services program development, implementation, and monitoring by effectively collaborating with all specialty/clinical disciplines, parents/guardians, school districts, etc., to identify and best meet the individual health and learning needs of each student.





Qualifications

Education & Experience:
Registered Nurse graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required with a current and valid N.J. license. A minimum of one year of general nursing experience preferred working with the developmentally disabled and/or the traumatically brain injured.

Special Skills: Knowledge of general nursing/clinical principles, medical evaluation/assessment procedures, and primary care principles and practices required. Ability to observe and record individual medical symptoms, reactions, and progress required. Knowledge of emergency medical procedures, of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration required. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, organization and time management skills required. Working knowledge of computer and related computer software preferred. Valid driver’s license required in incumbent’s legal name and current address with no provisional restrictions. Minimum 18 years of age required.
